The Vycalaca were a Great House that rose high and fell far. They came to prominence not long after the upheavals caused by the plagues of Idyss in the early 19th century, and stayed in power for a long time. House Vycalaca had many enemies, and outlived most of them. Among the rivals they saw ruined was House Vargari, that succumbed to a terrible blood-curse before they were destroyed as a Great House and scattered. As the centuries passed, the Vycalaca gained an increasingly sinister reputation for cruelty and depravity.
House Vycalaca’s strength was concentrated in the principality of Lamosca, which would eventually prove to be their undoing. The fall of Lamosca saw the fall of the Vycalaca as well. Popular legend has it that the remnants of this vicious house linger on after death in the cursed principality, and along the borders of Calvera and Maviolo parents tell their children to behave unless the Vycalaca ride out to collect them and carry them home.
The Vycalaca colors were recorded as blue, gold and red, and their House badge depicted a cockatrice perched on a sword blade. Their motto was “Strike me at your peril.”
