Vanas is notable in that it’s one of Valan’s true theocracies; this realm is dedicated to the service of Urvan the Lawgiver. The nation is overseen by a High Theocrat, who keeps the laws of the land. Able-bodied young men are required to serve in the military or do civil works for three years, and are expected to maintain arms as part of a citizen militia from then on, in case their services are required. The Vanasian armies aren’t large, but they are disciplined, and gain extra power from the Knight-Paladins, an elite order of knights templar. These sacred knights often pursue quests into the Plains of Minon, warring against the “beasts of chaos” that raid the Vanasian borders or searching out relics of old. The Vanasian flag depicts a white mace on a red field, surrounded by a white coil of rope in six knots.
